Local eyes. Independent reporting.
LCA News is a citizen-journalist clearinghouse built to bring hometown insight and immediacy to breaking-news coverage across the region’s underserved rural communities.
When news happens far from a television newsroom, people who live nearby often see and understand it first. LCA helps independent citizen journalists document what is happening, verify what can be verified, and make useful video and information available to news organizations and the public. The aim is simple: stronger local coverage, grounded in the places and people affected.
Experience behind the mission
LCA was founded by Marc J. Siegal, a Connecticut-based video journalist, field producer, editor and former newspaper reporter. In early-1990s Miami, Siegal worked as a television-news stringer, covering overnight breaking news in one of the country’s most competitive news markets. He later reported for The Miami Herald—including police-desk reporting and a weekly crime and public-safety column—and the Rutland Herald, and worked as a network researcher, field producer and broadcast freelancer. He currently works as a television news photographer/editor.
That experience—showing up early, observing independently and understanding what newsrooms need—shapes LCA’s approach to community-powered reporting. The Miami Tapes preserves hundreds of Siegal’s unedited early-1990s Miami news videos as a living archive of local history.
